LVPSPE is proud to host the Lehigh Valley MATHCOUNTS(R) Competition.

MATHCOUNTS is a national math coaching and competition program for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that promotes interest and ability in math by making math excellence as challenging, exciting, and prestigious as achievement in sports.  MATHCOUNTS has reached more than 4,000,000 students in its 36 year history.  It works because it is a partnership of the educational, business, and technological communities.

Many of the students who compete begin their preparations in the fall.  They work with their coaches on the topics that are included in MATHCOUNTS including: basic arithmetic, logic, probability and statistics, linear algebra, polynomials, and number series.  In-school competitions are typically administered by coaches in January to identify each school's team.

The Lehigh Valley MATHCOUNTS competition occurs in February each year.  The team that wins the Lehigh Valley competition will advance to the state competition in Harrisburg in March.  Additionally, the four highest-ranking individuals from the Countdown Round and the two highest-ranking individuals who were not on the winning team will also compete on the state level.  The top students from Pennsylvania will compete for national honors in May in Washington, DC.
